Regulus
Eve Racine
Regulus is the star that shone on me during the League of Stars retreat. Drawn to its brightness and its position as the heart of the constellation Leo, I observed the Lion on a night when it appeared with its head bowed, its body weighed toward its heart. My own heart had been heavy, weighted down by a recent illness and the responsibility of caring for my frail mother. Slowly, during the following months, as the constellation’s position shifted, the Lion appeared to turn, and Regulus became a beacon. It gave me strength and helped me visualising the cyclical aspect of nature.
Regulus became the title of a videopoem developed from a poem written during the retreat. The piece is presented as a projected film combining text, moving image and sound, with the poem functioning as its conceptual and emotional core. Light operates both materially and symbolically, echoing the stellar source that inspired the work.
Words and light merge with sound to create a reflective work exploring the relationship I have developed with the star Regulus, the heart of the Lion, a reflection of my own.
