Vega is one of the 15 Behenian fixed stars in the constellation of Lyra with a strong magical tradition across Babylonian and ancient Greek cultures. Known to the Babylonians as the Messenger of Light and to Arabic astronomers as an-nasr al-wāqi, the Falling Vulture, Vega's earthly representatives in the talismanic tradition are chrysolite, winter savory and fumitory, materials prescribed against nocturnal phantoms, fears and spiritual contamination in liminal states, specifically the threshold between waking and sleeping.

In the Greek tradition, Vega's lyre was in the hands of Orpheus, whose music was so complete it suspended the rules of reality and enchanted Hades, pausing the tortures of the underworld. The quality of beauty was so total it reorganised perception entirely.

This ritual creates a multi-sensory experience of Vega's quality of enchantment through sound frequencies and scales derived from Vega's own rotation period, a large format card from the Astrofármakon oracle deck as visual anchor, and an Astrofármakon essence prepared under Vega at its culmination in Exmoor. Specific ritual incantations were performed as the frequencies ran through the essence during its making, drawing stellar transmissions from Vega directly into its earthly representatives. Participants receive the essence to use at the threshold of sleep, where it continues Vega's work, quieting the filtering mind and opening a receptivity to what we might otherwise close ourselves against, while protecting against what comes through uninvited in liminal states.
